There are plenty of cryptocurrencies that are household names or that you have likely heard of if you have read anything about crypto. These include cryptos like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dash, Litecoin, Ripple, and others that are commonly mentioned. Just like there are some incredibly popular cryptocurrencies, there are also some very unique ones. Here are some of the most unusual cryptocurrencies that you may or may not have heard of.
Dogecoin stands out even among this list of unique cryptocurrencies because it started almost like a joke but grew to become a serious crypto. Dogecoin was the result of the Shiba Inu dog meme that was so popular in 2013. By mid-2015, this dog-based cryptocurrency already had 100 billion coins available. The coin even sponsors Olympic athletes and NASCAR drivers. Most of the other unique cryptos on this list are not even close to as successful.
The name UFO Coin sounds very unusual, after all, it brings up associations of aliens. Unfortunately, it is just the name of UFO Coin that is unique and odd. In reality, the coin has a goal that is more in-line with mainstream cryptos than most on this list. It delivers improved encryption to further protect the network via NeoScrypt technology.
Useless Ethereum Token
A cryptocurrency with a name that may make you laugh, Useless Ethereum Token, prides itself on being the first honest cryptocurrency in the world. It even explicitly says on its website that you should not purchase it and you will just be giving a random person online money.
PotCoin was created to appeal to those who want to purchase legal cannabis but do so in a way that still protects their privacy. PotCoin’s creators encourage people to use this crypto when buying legal marijuana. The creators behind this cryptocurrency actually managed to get Dennis Rodman to be a brand ambassador. They even sponsored his visit to North Korea during the peace talks between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump.
Sexcoin
Another adult-oriented cryptocurrency that certainly stands out from the crowd is Sexcoin. This crypto prides itself as being the very first crypto that is industry-specific and focuses on the industry of adult entertainment. It is used to buy adult products.
Yes, there is a cryptocurrency named after President Donald Trump. Based on the limited reviews concerning this odd crypto, it seems to support a similar rhetoric as its namesake. The website encourages investors to buy TrumpCoin to support the nation, citizens, and community so they can “realize their true potential.”
PutinCoin takes a similar approach and is obviously named after Russian President Vladimir Putin. This coin is, however, more lighthearted. After all, if you buy five PutinCoins or more, you will get a figurine of Putin sitting on a horse while shirtless.
PutinCoin is not the only cryptocurrency related to Putin; there is also PutinClassic. This latter is designed to be a souvenir as well as crypto and claims to be the first souvenir within crypto. The creators of PutinClassic call the coin “beautiful” and encourage people to either trade it or keep it in their wallets.
Another cryptocurrency associated with a famous yet controversial figure is Coinye. While it would seem likely that Kanye West decided to capitalize on his fame and create a cryptocurrency called Coinye, that is not the case. In reality, it was an independent start-up that Kanye did not approve of. In fact, he had his legal team stop the project due to using his name in an unauthorized manner.
With at least 1,600 cryptocurrencies in the world (as of August 2018), it is no surprise that there are some unusual ones mixed into the bunch. While the above cryptos are certainly unique and perhaps fun, most are not necessarily good investments, perhaps except for Dogecoin.
